Rincón: Puerto Rico's West Coast Treasure
Slow paced. Laid back. No rush. No need for shoes. No deadlines. No need to worry. Rincón is my favorite travel destination. Rincón is a small beach town located on the north-western coast of Puerto Rico. I took my first trip there when I was 15, and I try to go back every year. My best friend lives there, and I visit whenever I can. The locals are friendly and relaxed. Roadside stands sell delicious empenadas and black beans and rice. Food is cheap, and rum is even cheaper. Rincón is home to miles of sandy Caribbean beaches and big wave surfing in the winter when the tides are right. Tres Palmas is the biggest break in Rincón, which can get waves up to 20 feet a few times a year. Domes, Marias and Sandy beach are the other breaks in Rincón that don't get waves quite so big. Sandy beach is good for beginners, and people like myself who get scared of big waves. They're usually larger than Florida waves regardless with much better form. There are many gorgeous reefs that are perfect for snorkeling too. The thing I love most about Rincón is the small beach town atmosphere. It's a great place to escape to.
