I've always had a passion for American history and politics. Combined with my love for journalism, it wasn't long before I realized I wanted to be a political reporter.
With that in mind, I decided that for spring 2008, I should find an internship in Washington, D.C., to give the city a try. Through The Fund for American Studies' internship program called Capital Semester on Political Journalism, I landed an internship at Roll Call Newspaper, and signed up for three classes at Georgetown University.
That semester, I was met with many adventures and challenges.
To be honest, the biggest obstacle I had to overcome was the weather. Hailing from sunny South Florida, I was shocked when I stepped out of the airport and was hit in the face with a gust of 17-degree air.
My body eventually adjusted to the weather, and it wasn't long before I was out exploring the city that holds so much of our country's history.
I visited many more sites than what I've plotted on this map, so I decided to narrow it down to my favorite places, which include my apartment in Eastern Market, the FDR Memorial and the Capitol building.
