I've always been very artistic. Most of my hobbies revolve around the artsy-fartsy, including writing, drawing, painting and sculpting.
There was a time when I really wanted to go art school, particularly the Savannah College of Art and Design. When I realized that would probably mean I would end up as a high school art teacher, I settled on journalism.
I'm usually pretty shy about my art. Because I don't devote enough time to drawing, my talent is still very raw, so it's not really at a point where I would like it to be. Still, I feel like it's an interesting facet to my life that I should share with people more. Perhaps it will inspire me to put my skills to practice.
These are some samples from an older sketchbook I have. While they don't include my paintings or pottery, it gives a good impression of what I really like to draw: people.
I particularly like drawing Marilyn Monroe. I'm not sure if it came from having biographies and picture collections or a fascination with drawing her hair.
I also love colored pencils because they lend themselves to detail. Colored pencils offer an easy technique for a soft blend of colors.
