Nick Batty's Home Page [Going to Graves]
You need certain items when you come to Graves Farm. For the visitor not used to living off the beaten path, the remoteness of the location will take some getting used to.
Graves Farm is about a 30 minute truck ride from Lincolnton, the nearest town, so having everything you need at hand during your stay is a must. Here are some of the items you will need:
- Food - A supply of food (of your choosing) should be brought with you. It gets old (and expensive, in a truck getting eight miles per gallon) to have make the trip into town because you forgot the butter. Figure out what you need, and get it.
- Truck - Most areas of the property are only accessible with a four wheel drive vehicle. Plus, if you're at the farm during deer season, it beats pushing your deer back to the barn in a wheelbarrow.
- Boots - There is a lot of walking to be done, and cheap shoes will wear out fast. Blisters are no fun, so whether you are working, hunting, or just enjoying the country life, good boots are a must.
- Shotgun - There are a lot of nasties in rural North Georgia, but none a shotgun won't keep at bay. Whether it's bobcats, timber rattlers, coyotes, moccassins or the occasional bear, you'll be glad you're packing heat.
- Bug Spray - They get pretty bad, especially in the summer. All year round, though, you should be wearing spray to reduce your riskof getting chiggers and ticks.
Graves Farm can be an inhospitable place to the unprepared. So be prepared.
